What is a ducted aircon system?

A ducted aircon system uses a single outdoor compressor connected to concealed ducts and ceiling diffusers to cool multiple rooms throughout a property.

Ducted aircon systems hide the main cooling equipment and distribution pipes within the ceiling void, sending chilled air to multiple rooms through a network of ducts and diffusers. The outdoor condenser unit connects to a central indoor handler, which cools the air and pushes it silently through ductwork to room outlets. This differs sharply from wall-mounted split units, where each indoor fan coil sits visibly on a wall or ceiling corner of a single room.

The appeal of ducted systems in properties across Tampines rests on their invisibility and centralised control. No wall-mounted units disrupt interior finishes. A single thermostat or zone panel manages temperature across the whole house or multiple zones. Ductwork must fit within the structural cavity, so installation typically suits buildings with sufficient ceiling depth, such as flats with suspended ceilings or homes being retrofitted with adequate interstitial space.

Ducted systems demand regular duct cleaning to maintain airflow and filter hygiene, and repair work often requires accessing concealed infrastructure. Single-room flexibility is lower than split systems, since each diffuser serves a fixed zone. For properties requiring quiet, discreet cooling across many rooms, ducted systems remain a standard choice. Commercial and industrial aircon contractors in the area frequently install or service both ducted and split configurations depending on building layout and occupant needs.
