What is a condensing unit?

The condensing unit is the outdoor component of a split air conditioning system that compresses refrigerant and expels heat to cool air for the building.

A condensing unit is the outdoor section of a split air conditioning system responsible for compressing refrigerant gas and releasing heat to the surrounding environment. It sits outside your home or office, usually on a rooftop or exterior wall in Tampines residential and commercial spaces.

The unit contains three key components working together. The compressor pressurizes the refrigerant after it returns from the indoor space in a warm, low-pressure state. The condenser coil then cools this hot, compressed refrigerant by transferring heat to the outside air. The fan circulates air across the condenser coil to speed up this heat exchange process. Once cooled, the refrigerant flows back indoors through copper pipes to the fan coil unit, where it absorbs heat from indoor air to cool your space.

The condensing unit is essential to the refrigeration cycle that makes air conditioning work. Without it, the heat absorbed indoors has nowhere to go. Its size and capacity determine how much cooling power the entire system can deliver. Proper installation, regular cleaning of the condenser coil, and fan maintenance keep the unit running efficiently and prevent breakdowns. If you need to replace or install a condensing unit, contractors in the aircon installation category can assess your building's cooling needs and recommend the right size for your space.
